Cabin Baggage
Carry-On Allowance (General Guidelines)
- Personal item: 1 per passenger — fits under the seat (purse, small backpack, laptop bag)
- Carry-on bag: 1 per passenger — fits in overhead bin, typically up to 22" x 14" x 9"
- Weight limit: Most carriers allow up to 25 lbs (11 kg) for carry-on bags
- Liquids rule: Containers of 3.4 oz (100ml) or less in a single 1-quart clear bag
Checked Baggage
Checked Bag Rules & Fees (General Guidelines)
- Standard checked bag: Up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and 62 linear inches. Fees vary by airline and fare class.
- Overweight bags: 51–70 lbs typically incur a $75–$175 surcharge depending on the carrier.
- Oversized bags: Bags exceeding 62 linear inches are subject to additional fees, usually $75–$200.
- First bag fee: Ranges from $0 (included on some fares) to $35+ each way on budget carriers.
- Second bag fee: Typically $45–$65 each way. Fees are higher for international routes.
Special Items
Special & Oversized Items
- Sports equipment: Bikes, skis, golf clubs, and surfboards require special packaging and extra fees.
- Musical instruments: Small instruments may be carried on; larger instruments may need a separate seat.
- Mobility aids: Wheelchairs and mobility devices are transported free of charge on all carriers.
- Pets in cabin: Select airlines allow small pets in-cabin for a fee; must remain in approved carrier.
